Latin America’s largest investment bank, (BPAC11 ) BTG Pactual, made history in 2019 by becoming the first major financial institution to launch its own security token offering (STO). The project, known as ReitBZ, was designed to use blockchain technology to democratize access to the Brazilian real estate market.

Unlike the theoretical projects that dominated the era, ReitBZ was a live, functioning product. It successfully raised capital to invest in a portfolio of distressed real estate assets in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

Moving beyond reliance on third-party stablecoins (like the Gemini Dollar used in the initial ReitBZ pilot), the bank launched BTG Dol.
