Artificiell intelligens

Artificial intelligence has had a resounding effect on free speech. For one, it’s made it easier for people to create vibrant portrayals of their vision and share them with the public via social media. It’s also reduced production costs to nearly zero, enabling any organization to champion its cause virtually.
Adding to the chaos, social media algorithms can promote deepfakes as they are often more controversial, resulting in more interaction. This creates a cycle where the falsehoods are displayed more prominently than the real information. Sadly, no mandate states that AI misinformation must be labeled.
AI och medborgarengagemang i demokratiska system
Artificial intelligence opens the door for broader participation from citizens. Its systems make it easier for the government and the citizens to communicate their ideas and track public consensus. Additionally, it has proven helpful in summarizing complex legislation and sharing vital data to inform citizens.
AI-övervakningsrisker och demokratiska integritetsfrågor
There are several övervakningsrisker that AI creates alongside driving participation. These systems can easily track voters. There are AI systems that can review your complete digital footprint and provide an assessment of your political views based on your web activity.
Additionally, this technology can be used to determine who a person is based on their digital footprint or preferences. All of these tools don’t require a warrant like past technologies. As such, the potential for abuse is heightened.
AI:s roll i moderna val och valintegritet
Artificial intelligence offers several benefits to the election process. For one, it makes it easier to monitor results. AI systems can also help to track any disruptions in terms of voter intimidation or threats.
AI-deepfakes och krisen i politiskt förtroende
Of all the AI misinformation causing chaos today, the main problems arise around deepfakes. This technology enables people to easily create duplicates of public officials, industry professionals, or anyone they desire, including political candidates.

Political deepfakes continue to create headaches for officials and skew information to the public. The problem is that these fakes have become nearly indistinguishable from the real thing. As such, they have been adopted by nearly every type of group seeking to create chaos or sow the seeds of mistrust in the public.
“Lögnarnas utdelning” och erosionen av allmänhetens förtroende
The constant bombardment of AI deepfakes has another unexpected effect – the liar’s dividend. This term refers to an incident that has genuine facts and evidence to support, but still gets denied by the accused as being an AI deep fake.
This strategy degrades trust in the systems and creates a scenario where the average person can’t make informed decisions. It also kills any chance of reasonable debate, as all sides are polarized on topics due to misinformation.
Verkliga exempel på AI-deepfakes i val
There are several recent examples of deepfakes wreaking havoc during elections. One notable incident occurred on 21 januari 2024, when a robocall deepfake was used. The AI system was set up to contact registered democrats.
When they answered, a Deepfake voice of President Joe Biden was used to urge them to “save their vote for November“. Reports show that his message went out to 20,000 people, resulting in many choosing to skip the elections as the message stated.
When reports broke about the robocalls, an investigation was launched. However, it was already after the election had concluded, and no ballots were recast. This scenario is just one of many that highlight the dangers of AI deepfake election interference.
Slovakiens deepfake-skandal i valet 2023
Another example of AI interference in elections occurred in Slovakiens val 2023. In this incident, a fake video emerged showing Progressive Slovakia leader Michal Šimečka discussing rigging the election. The video was later labeled fake, but not until it had received millions of views and shares on TikTok, Facebook, and Telegram.
Hur man upptäcker AI-deepfakes år 2026
Detecting deep fakes is no easy task. It used to be that the technology would leave lots of errors, such as unnatural blinking, weird lighting, or even the appearance of lip syncing. Research suggests humans are often poor at detecting high-quality deepfakes, frequently performing near chance levels depending on context and modality.
One way to determine if a video is a deepfake is to search the image frames using Google to find the original content. They will also try to use the audio to search for unnatural sounds. In some cases, it’s impossible to detect a high-quality deep fake without some technical tools.
Toppverktyg för AI-deepfake-detektion och deras begränsningar
Ironically, AI tools are the best option to use when attempting to determine the legitimacy of a video. These options include Deepware Scanner, Reality Defender, Microsoft’s Video Authenticator, and more.
These protocols have proprietary algorithms designed to locate any pixel inconsistencies or patterns found with AI video frames. These systems can also cross-reference the occurrences with local data, enabling them to reveal an AI interference.
The best AI detection tools aren’t perfect, with protocols like Bio-ID scoring 98% in recent testing. The fact that 2% of the deepfakes were discernible to even other AI systems is cause for concern moving forward.
Mediekunnighet som försvar mot AI-manipulation
Perhaps the best way to combat deepfakes is to focus on driving media literacy amongst the masses. Keenly, there needs to be a required label that makes it easy to determine if a video is a deepfake or legitimate.
Varför självreglering inom stortech har misslyckats i AI-styrning
History has shown that tech companies cannot self-regulate. Their focus is on profit and innovation. This desire can come at the cost of privacy and the truth. As such, there is no scenario in which a tech company will effectively be able to prevent deepfakes from reaching their followers.
Regeringens AI-regleringsinsatser 2026
As tech companies are incapable of providing the required protections against these issues, governments have begun to take up the torch. However, this scenario isn’t ideal as governments don’t understand the technology in a way that enables them to create safeguards that don’t stifle innovation.
AI-företag vs regering: Policysammanstötning 2026
The rift between governments and AI providers has begun to grow over the last few months. While lawmakers are eager to protect the public from deep fakes and misinformation, the military continues to push for full integration of AI tools into its arsenal.
This desire to use this technology as a part of the kill chain has resulted in several public spats between companies and the US government. Here are some of the most recent incidents, highlighting the risks and potential dark side of AI warfare.
Anthropic vs USA:s försvarsdepartement
Anthropic is in the midst of a public spat with the US Department of Defense over the use of their Claude AI model. The disagreement revolves around granting unlimited access to the AI, which could result in the system being used to conduct mass domestic surveillance.
Anthropic, which launched in 2021, has also denied full access due to concerns over the reliability of AI targeting systems. Both of these red lines were set out by the company’s CEO, Dario Amodei, citing unreliability as a main concern.
Anthropics föreslagna begränsningar för militär AI-användning
For this part, the Pentagon argues that this $200M pentagon contract should include unmitigated access. Anthropic made some concessions during the debate, including permitting the AI systems to be used in missile and defence. It even stated it would be ok with NSA operations, as long as they excluded mass surveillance of US citizens.
Varför Pentagon avvisade Anthropics restriktioner
However, that wasn’t enough for Pentagon officials. Shortly after Anthropic denied this claim, the Trump administration banned their products from use by any federal organization. Specifically, the president labeled Anthropic products a “national security risk.” Reporting around the dispute also referenced the Defense Production Act as a potential pressure tool, though the precise legal rationale should be described carefully unless directly quoted from the order.
This maneuver means that Anthropic will be unable to secure any military or government contracts moving forward, leaving the company in a precarious scenario where it must choose between its core beliefs and profit.
Hur OpenAI och xAI svarade på Pentagon-förändringen
Anthropic competitor OpenAI quickly stepped in to fill Anthropic’s shoes, promising full compliance with the Pentagon. As such, the company signed a classified deal with the government, which includes unrestricted lawful use of its AI system.
Nuvarande militära tillämpningar av artificiell intelligens
There are already lots of examples of AI systems helping to increase the pace and scale of warfare. These systems are optimized to work hand in hand with the growing number of autonomous systems, such as swarm drone tech.
Artificial intelligence is seen as a game changer because it can fuse inputs from a massive array of sensors to provide faster targeting and more. It’s also crucial in the logistics and financial sectors of the military, where it can help to ensure preventive maintenance and other key tasks remain on schedule.
Israels användning av AI-målsystem i Gaza
The use of AI targeting systems was highlighted in Israel’s Gaza campaign. These operations leveraged tools like Lavender to cross-reference a person’s movements with potential militant behaviors.
This tool enabled the Israeli army to track and target low-level Hamas fighters before bombing them in their homes. Notably, the system reportedly has a 10% error rate according to Israeli military personnel. However, that number is highly debatable.
AI‑målssystemet “Gospel” förklarat
Another Israeli AI tool dubbed Gospel is set up to provide 100 targets daily. It cross-references movements and other data to locate potential buildings that could hold enemy fighters. This system is often used with the “Where’s Daddy” AI program that enables autonomous tracking of flagged personnel.
AI i brottsbekämpning: hotdetektering och integritetsrisker
The use of AI systems in law enforcement is another hotly contested debate. Many people were surprised to learn that ChatGPT’s systems flagged Canada’s Tumbler Ridge mass shooter, Jesse Van Rootselaar, as a potential threat.
Specifically, the AI system noted policy violations eight months prior, in which the user repeatedly asked gun violence-related inquiries. The query was sent to several human reviewers, which led to the account being banned and the user flagged.
Varför AI-flaggningssystem ofta misslyckas med att utlösa ingripande
Despite the ringing alarm bells, the company states that the account didn’t cross the threshold for what they consider an active threat. As such, the authorities were never notified. If they had been, they may have been able to interview and save eight lives on February 10th, 2026.
Interestingly, internal company records show that there was a debate regarding notifying the authorities following the account ban. It was later revealed that the shooter opened another account evading the ban before his attacks.
Government officials argue that it was OpenAI’s responsibility to notify the authorities of the suspicious chat, and if they had, it could have helped to save lives. Conversely, the company stated that it will improve its data sharing and response time, lowering its thresholds.
AI‑etikettsbrevet “Vi kommer inte att delas”
The “We Will Not Be Divided Letter” is an open call for AI employees to publicly oppose fully autonomous weapons and mass surveillance, and to push for enforceable safety commitments across the industry. The letter urges AI developers not support fully autonomous weapons or mass surveillance operations in any way.
It also creates a list of shared safety lines that are designed to prevent a runaway AI scenario. These guidelines include items like including a human-in-the-loop for oversight and to approve any lethal activities. It also champions transparency to prevent abuse.
The core goal of the letter is to create a set of ethical standards that all AI companies can follow to prevent the technology from making life hell for everyone on the planet. It comes at a critical junction in AI adoption as militaries have become reliant on this technology for targeting and information gathering operations.
Var stora AI-företag står i förhållande till regeringens och militärens användning
When you examine these two very different scenarios, you can see how AI companies continue to merge operations with government agencies. This merging will require a delicate balance of capabilities with safeguards and transparency to prevent abuse. Here’s each company’s current stance on government operations.

Anthropic
Anthropic has stuck to its core standards, seeking to maintain hard limits on autonomous targeting and mass surveillance use cases. However, it appears to be paying dearly for their moral compass, as federal agencies moved to restrict or phase out use of its models in certain environments.
OpenAI
OpenAI is all for government integration. The company was eager to gain positioning when Anthropics lost its Department of Defense contract due to sticking to its mission core. OpenAI has agreed to deploy models within defense environments under a “lawful use” framework. The company states that it prohibits domestic mass surveillance and requires human responsibility for the use of force.
xAI
Elon Musk’s xAI has been a strong supporter of AI integration into warfare doctrine. Reporting indicates xAI has signaled willingness to support classified government deployments under “lawful use” terms, though operational details remain limited.
Google (GOOGL ) has had a lot of internal debate regarding the use of its system in warfare. The company had over 300 core workers sign an open letter that urged AI providers to reject open contracts to the Pentagon. However, Google has +$200M in CDAO contracts, meaning that they are under a lot of pressure to bend.
