What does this mean for the two companies?
The Sandbox shared additional details about the new partnership in a Medium post, explaining that the partnership will allow users to participate in the future Game Jam in the Ragnarok universe.
Ragnarok has been the main IP of Gravity ever since 2002, when Ragnarok Online first appeared. For the past 20 years, Ragnarok has been successfully serviced by mobile and PC alike. Of course, over the years, many new installations in the Ragnarok series emerged, such as Ragnarok M: Eternal Love, Ragnarok Origin, Ragnarok X: Next Generation, and more.
The brand became well-known and extremely popular worldwide, which also led Gravity to actively carry out license business. The company has been broadcasting Ragnarok animations, tunning the online store for Ragnarok merchandise, and alike.
The CEO of The Sandbox Korea, Cindy Lee, commented on the move, noting that The Sandbox is very happy about the new collaboration, especially given Ragnaok’s popularity all over the world. The partnership is an exciting development, according to Lee, and the joy that Ragnarok brings to players can now be adapted in a new way through the metaverse.
Gravity’s Business Director of the Business Division, Harry Choi, also commented on the move, noting that the partnership is significant as it will allow users from all corners of the world to easily access Ragnarok through The Sandbox’s metaverse. He further added that the company is preparing diverse content with Ragnarok IP, which users will be able to enjoy in the metaverse as well.
He did not specify what content is coming or when it will be ready to be deployed, but he invited the community to stay tuned and keep an eye out for new announcements.
The Sandbox’s price reacts to the news
Following the announcement, The Sandbox saw a significant surge in price. The project’s value has been dropping throughout the week, going from the highest point in the last 7 days — $1.42, reached on July 22nd — to the lowest one of $1.13, reached on July 26th.
After the announcement, however, the price suddenly shot up, hitting the value of $1.32 just earlier today, July 28th. Since then, the price corrected slightly, and at the time of writing, it sits at $1.29. Even with this correction, however, the price is still over 7% up from 24 hours ago, signifying the importance of the partnership and the excitement that The Sandbox’s investors and users feel about the new development.
