Best For: Australia, New Zealand, Singapore Traders

Warning: Trading in cryptocurrency is highly speculative and carries a high level of risk. It is possible to lose all your capital. These products may not be suitable for everyone and you should ensure that you understand the risks involved. Seek independent advice if necessary. Speculate only with funds that you can afford to lose.

Independent Reserve is a cryptocurrency exchange based in Australia which was founded in 2013. They quickly established themselves as a very trusted fiat-crypto exchange. They now offer services to more than 200,000 traders and have a particular focus on those in Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore.

If you are trading from one of these countries in particular, then Independent Reserve could be a great exchange choice for you. Here we will take a closer look at the key areas of the exchange, and exactly what it has to offer.

Pros

  • Multiple fiat base currencies supported
  • Well-regulated in Australia
  • Good range of major and altcoins available
  • Auto trading features available within trading platform

Cons

  • Trading fees are slightly higher than some
  • Wire transfer minimum deposit is high

Trust

4.8/5

Making sure you trade with a well-trusted company is one of the key concerns when selecting a cryptocurrency exchange. To this end, Independent Reserve has an excellent reputation.

The exchange is the first to be regulated within the Australian financial system which is one of the most stringent in the world when it comes to safety and security. They are also the first exchange to report to the AUSTRAC agency in Australia who is responsible for keeping levels of security within financial transactions at a very high level.

From the actual trading platform perspective, Independent Reserve also provides a very reliable platform that has never been hacked and any holdings are stored offline in secure wallets within encrypted, and geo-dispersed data centers to maintain maximum levels of security and provide you with a very safe trading environment. The exchange also utilizes two-factor authentication when accessing your account.

These measures alongside the fact that they have been in operation for a number of years make Independent Reserve a very transparent, trusted choice.

Investment Products

4.4/5

With Independent Reserve, you will find a total of 25 cryptocurrencies that are made available to trade at present. This may not be the widest selection but it does include all of the major crypto names that you would expect like Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), and more alongside a good variety of popular altcoins like Aave (AAVE), and Yearn Finance (YFI). You can also purchase the Perth Mint Gold Token (PMGT) which may be ideal if you are interested in buying gold in Australia.

These assets are backed by several fiat base currencies that Independent Reserve supports. You can make trades with the USD, AUD, NZD, and SGD in line with the areas of the world the exchange currently focuses on.

Crypto to crypto trading is also supported of course, with the USDT stable coin also available on the exchange and support for more currencies being added all the time.

Commission & Fees

4.1/5

Fees on the exchange are based on your previous 30-days of trading activity and start from a highest point of 0.5%.  This is a little higher than other global competitors as a starting point, but taking on board the focus of the exchange on Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore, fees are competitive.

These fees can also drop down to 0.02% based on how much you are trading while there are many tiers in between to reward you with a discount on fees for being an active, higher-volume trader.

When it comes to deposit and withdrawal fees, there are no fees when making a deposit of more than AU$100 through electronic fund transfer. There are also no fees for making a SWIFT wire transfer as long as this is over AU$5,000. An AU$15 fee applies below this amount.

Fiat withdrawals are also free of charge to Australian accounts with an AU$20 fee attached to New Zealand and other international withdrawals. The fees on cryptocurrency withdrawals vary depending on the crypto you are withdrawing but currently stands at 0.0003 for BTC, and 0.001 for ETH.

Trading Platform

4.4/5

With the trading platform, you will find Independent Reserve offers a fairly easy-to-navigate trading experience both in their web-based trading platform and on mobile where trading features are also available.

They also have an app for both iOS and Android.

Detailed charting analysis and tools are also provided on the trading platform with the assistance of some Trading View controls. These are easy to view though some traders have commented that they are not as intuitive as they could be, with the charts proving cumbersome to adjust to your needs.

Overall though, the Independent Reserve trading platform still performs well and is user-friendly for those particularly who are newer to the industry and makes a good starting point for many traders.

Among the most unique features of the trading platform is the ability to engage auto trading and choose from a library of strategies provided by the exchange. These can allow you to schedule purchases ahead of time, invested in certain weighted baskets of cryptocurrency, or make auto purchases on deposit to your account, and all free of charge aside from the standard exchange trading fees.

Customer Support

4.6/5

For customer support at Independent Reserve, you will have a number of options. The first of these is to start at a very well-resourced help section provided by the exchange. This dedicated area answers many FAQs on the most common issues you may face. Alongside this, it can also provide some great information and guides on how to start trading as well as other educational topics.

If you can’t find the answer here, then you can click to submit a help request to the Independent Reserve support team. This is done on a ticketed basis and you must be logged in to submit the ticket. Once you have done this though, you can expect a fast response from a member of the very professional, and knowledgeable team.

Summary

4.5/5

If you are looking for an established broker with an excellent reputation for trust and backed by secure regulation within Australia especially, but also including New Zealand and Singapore, then Independent Reserve makes an ideal choice for you.

They have everything in place that you could need from a cryptocurrency exchange with many popular, and trending assets available, a large pool of current traders, a decent fee structure, and some very unique and innovative features that can facilitate you in auto trading. This is definitely an exchange with an eye on the future as they continue to grow in a reliable manner.
