eBay, one of the leading online marketplaces, is looking to incorporate a digital asset payments option. However, the firm has yet to make any official announcement about how this will happen.
The CEO of eBay, Jamie Iannone, has now confirmed that “new forms of payment” are being explored. He has confirmed this by saying the launch of a digital wallet will happen during the second quarter of the year.
eBay set to launch a digital wallet
A digital wallet is a software program that will support payment details. The most popular digital wallets are those that support credit and debit cards. These wallets include those available on Google Pay and Apple Pay. Such digital wallets have become popular due to the convenience of making digital payments.
Digital wallets also can hold private keys. These private keys can access cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. The functionality of digital wallets has evolved over the past year, and some of them support NFTs.
NFTs have become popular, and some of the leading NFT marketplaces now have billion-dollar valuations. NFTs are digital assets that allow people to have a unique way of trading collectables such as art, music albums, etc. With an NFT, one gets a digital deed that proves their ownership.
eBay wants a share of the NFT market
eBay is now looking for a way to compete in this buzzing NFT sector. eBay has already unveiled a feature that allows users to buy and sell NFTs on the platform. Iannone has stated that this feature will lure young users to the platform.
Iannone has also unveiled other products such as sneaker aficionados to lure more young users to the platform. This will be accompanied by a wide range of features that make it easy for the platform to be used by young users.
Iannone has further added some of the most convenient payments options for users, including Apple Pay and Google Pay. The platform also has an option where payments can be paid in installments. This makes it possible for the platform to attract a wide user base, making it more convenient for young users.
