SOPHiA GENETICS Q3 Revenue Rises 25% as Adjusted EBITDA Loss Narrows

SOPHiA GENETICS (SOPH ) reported its third-quarter results on November 3, 2026: revenue rose 25% year over year to $24.3 million, while its adjusted EBITDA loss, a company measure excluding depreciation, amortization, interest, taxes and other specified items, narrowed 31% to $6.1 million.
Revenue for the quarter ended September 30, 2026 increased from $19.5 million a year earlier. Reported gross margin was 65.7%, down from 66.3%, while adjusted gross margin, which excludes amortization of capitalized research and development expenses, was 72.8%, versus 73.1%.
The improvement in adjusted EBITDA did not carry through to the reported bottom line. Net loss increased to $20.3 million from $20.0 million, and operating loss was nearly unchanged at $17.8 million.
Gross profit of $15.9 million was outweighed by $8.3 million of research and development spending, $10.6 million of selling and marketing costs and $14.9 million of general and administrative costs. The adjusted EBITDA reconciliation also excludes $4.6 million of share-based compensation and $2.8 million of related social charges, among other items, helping explain why the adjusted loss is much smaller than the reported net loss.
Customer Growth Broadens the Revenue Base
SOPHiA GENETICS reported a record 118,000 analyses on SOPHiA DDM, up 19% year over year, and 4,200 Liquid Biopsy analyses, representing growth of more than 100%. Core genomics customers increased to 551 at September 30 from 488 a year earlier, while Net Dollar Retention rose to 118% from 108%.
Revenue increased 41% in the United States, 45% in North America and 33% in Asia Pacific. The company also signed 30 new core genomics customers during the quarter. Management expects those accounts to begin generating revenue over the next twelve months.
New U.S. customers included PathGroup, which signed for Solid Tumors and HemOnc applications, and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, which signed for HemOnc. Both accounts are expected to ramp in 2027. An expansion with a U.S. military medical center for Rare Disorders applications was valued at more than $2 million annually.
BioPharma activity included a multi-year agreement with AstraZeneca covering two companion diagnostic programs: a decentralized Solid Tumor test and a Hematological Oncology test for patients with blood cancer. The Solid Tumor work incorporates Myriad Genetics’ (MYGN ) prostate cancer-specific genomic instability score technology into the Extended Homologous Recombinant Solution powered by SOPHiA DDM.
Separately, an unnamed BioPharma company agreed to collaborate on a multimodal AI predictor intended to help identify bladder cancer patients most likely to benefit from a targeted therapy.
Guidance Holds as Financing Bolsters Cash
Management expects full-year 2026 revenue at the upper end of the previously issued $94 million to $96 million range. That outlook reflects strong business performance partly offset by foreign-exchange movements near the end of the third quarter, which would become a fourth-quarter revenue headwind if sustained. The full-year adjusted EBITDA loss is forecast at $29 million to $32 million, compared with $41.5 million in 2025.
For the first nine months of 2026, operating activities used $32.3 million of cash, compared with $27.8 million a year earlier, while capitalized development costs totaled $7.1 million. Financing activities supplied $65.0 million, including $15.7 million of net proceeds from an at-the-market offering and $53.5 million from a follow-on offering.
Cash and cash equivalents consequently reached $93.7 million at September 30, up from $70.3 million at December 31, 2025. The stronger balance therefore reflects financing inflows rather than positive operating cash generation.
Management reaffirmed its target of reaching positive adjusted EBITDA in the second half of 2027. The central question for subsequent results is whether the expanding customer base and BioPharma programs can add enough scale to achieve that crossover while reported losses and operating cash consumption remain substantial.
