Iberdrola Wins Two Brazil Transmission Lots in ANEEL Auction

Iberdrola, through its Brazilian subsidiary Neoenergia, has been awarded two electricity transmission projects in Brazil spanning 834 kilometres of power lines and involving an estimated investment of 1.4 billion Brazilian reais (approximately 231 million euros), Iberdrola announced on October 30, 2026. The projects correspond to lots 1 and 7 in the auction held that day by Brazil’s National Electric Energy Agency.
Of the 834 kilometres included in the projects, 351 kilometres will be newly built. The works will be carried out in the states of Bahia and Paraíba and are expected to create more than 3,100 jobs, according to the announcement. Iberdrola said the infrastructure will help strengthen the security and increase the capacity of Brazil’s electricity system.
In Bahia, lot 1 comprises 483 kilometres of existing lines and 238 kilometres of new lines, as well as 700 megavolt-amperes (MVA) of capacity. Iberdrola said these facilities offer synergies with Neoenergia’s existing distribution and transmission operations in the region. In Paraíba, lot 7 includes 113 kilometres of new lines and 2,100 MVA of capacity and also offers synergies with the company’s transmission and generation operations, according to the announcement.
The concessions will have a 30-year term from the signing of the contracts, which is scheduled for February 2027. Operations must begin within a maximum of 48 months for lot 1 and 42 months for lot 7. Neoenergia currently manages more than 8,000 kilometres of transmission lines in the country, and Iberdrola describes it as one of Brazil’s leading electricity transmission operators. The company said the award reinforces its growth in the networks business, with a focus on creating long-term value.
