EPG Tops Out About $120 Million Malaysian Data Center Module Plant

EPG Modular Data Center announced on November 6, 2026 that it had topped out an approximately US$120 million Free Industrial Zone factory in Senai Airport City, Johor, Malaysia. The facility will manufacture modular data center shelters and critical power equipment and is intended to bring production closer to customers across Southeast Asia.
The ceremony featured the raising of the final structural beam. The site spans 107,450 square meters, including 70,000 square meters of production space. Production space accounts for roughly 65% of the total site area, calculated from the two reported measurements. EPG expects to complete the factory in the first quarter of 2027 and, once it is fully operational, employ more than 800 people locally.
EPG projects that the facility will rank among the largest single-site data center module manufacturing bases in the modular data center sector by production capacity. Its projected standing rests on capacity at one manufacturing location, not a combined figure across multiple sites.
Integrated Shelter and Power Production
The master plan comprises five buildings for sheet-metal production, power transfer unit products, diesel-generator manufacturing, final assembly, and R&D and office functions. The factory will produce modular data center shelters and supporting equipment, including diesel generator sets and power transfer unit power modules.
Consolidating shelter and critical power equipment production in Malaysia is intended to help EPG coordinate production and assembly, respond more effectively to project schedules and deliver with greater flexibility. The plan therefore ties the factory’s scale to a specific commercial purpose: producing both data center enclosures and supporting power systems within one regional manufacturing base.
“By combining advanced manufacturing with strong local partnerships, we are building a responsive base in Malaysia and a model that can evolve with customer needs in other markets,” founder and chairman Alick Wan said.
Automation and Digital Production
The plant is designed for flexible, digitally enabled manufacturing using advanced automation equipment, intelligent control systems and automated welding technology. EPG expects its production lines to reach an automation rate of at least 80%, with processes including pretreatment, laser cutting, robotic welding and dust-free coating. Modular line design will accommodate multiple product types and specifications.
Supplier relationship management, product lifecycle management, manufacturing execution, quality management and warehouse management platforms will link supply-chain, R&D, production, quality and warehousing processes. Digital-twin technology will support production visibility and traceability, while intelligent sensing and real-time alerts are intended to help strengthen workplace and equipment safety.
For now, the announcement establishes the scale of EPG’s manufacturing commitment rather than output from it. The remaining milestones are construction completion, the ramp-up to full operation and evidence that integrating shelters with critical power equipment delivers the scheduling and delivery flexibility the company expects.
