Coinbase and Webull Expand Crypto Trading and Custody Partnership to Canada

Coinbase and Webull Canada announced on August 31, 2026, an expansion of their partnership that will bring cryptocurrency trading and custody services to Canada, with Coinbase serving as Webull’s crypto infrastructure partner in the country.
Under the arrangement, Webull Canada will be built on Coinbase’s Crypto-as-a-Service platform and will use Coinbase’s institutional-grade custody and trading services, according to the Coinbase announcement. The Canada expansion follows similar launches of the partnership in the United States, Brazil, and Australia.
Partnership Terms and Structure
As Webull’s partner for core crypto infrastructure, Coinbase will support an experience designed to give customers in Canada access to crypto functionality, combining liquidity, infrastructure, and technology that Coinbase described as trusted by many of the world’s leading institutions.
“Canadian investors expect access to a growing range of asset classes, and crypto has become an increasingly important part of that mix,” said Michael Constantino, CEO of Webull Canada. “Our partnership with Coinbase provides the infrastructure needed to deliver this offering with the scale and reliability our clients expect. As adoption continues to grow across the country, we remain focused on giving investors secure, regulated tools to build their portfolios on their own terms.”
Coinbase stated that Webull selected it for the Canadian expansion based on its comprehensive offering of assets, global coverage, flexibility and scale, its position as a publicly traded company, and its competitive pricing. According to Coinbase, the partnership globally has allowed Webull to expand its crypto offering across multiple countries, driving higher notional trading volumes on the Webull platform.
Canadian Regulatory Framework
The Canadian entity involved in the offering is Webull Canada Crypto Limited, which the announcement identifies as regulated by the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization and a member of the Canadian Investor Protection Fund. The entity provides order execution only crypto trading. The announcement notes that crypto assets are not covered by the Canadian Investor Protection Fund and directs users to a crypto asset risk disclosure on the Webull Canada website.
On the Coinbase side, Coinbase Canada, Inc. is registered as a Restricted Dealer in all provinces and territories of Canada, according to the announcement’s disclaimer, which also states that trading in crypto assets may result in the loss of invested capital.
Canadian Crypto Ownership Survey
The announcement cited a recent survey by the Ontario Securities Commission finding that ownership of crypto assets among Canadians has increased to 25%, up from 10% in 2023.
The OSC published the survey results on July 28, 2026. The survey of 2,360 Canadians found that 59% are aware of crypto assets. Half of crypto owners reported checking whether their crypto asset trading platform is registered before using it, up from 38% in 2023. Among Canadians aware of crypto assets, 38% indicated they were highly likely to purchase crypto assets in the future, up 18 percentage points from 2023.
The OSC release stated that knowledge of crypto assets remains limited, with many investors holding some misunderstanding around regulation, insurance protections, and transaction capabilities. It also found that awareness and ownership of stablecoins and tokenized real-world assets remain relatively low, while interest is high among those familiar with those products.
“Crypto markets continue to evolve, and Canadians are participating in them more than ever before,” said Naizam Kanji, Executive Vice President, Strategic Regulation at the OSC, in the release.
Partnership History
The two companies first announced their collaboration in May 2025, when Coinbase said Webull Pay had chosen Coinbase as its crypto partner, also through the Crypto-as-a-Service platform. That initial partnership announcement, dated May 16, 2025, covered custody, trading, staking, and USDC access, with a launch planned for June 2025. At the time, the companies said they were exploring additional opportunities to expand globally and bring Webull Pay-branded crypto experiences to more users around the world.
The August 31, 2026, announcement positions Canada as the latest market in that expansion. Coinbase stated that as global demand for crypto products grows, it remains focused on powering partners with the infrastructure needed to bring crypto experiences to market.
