Bloomberg and Clearwater Analytics announced on September 22, 2026, that NFU Mutual has selected Bloomberg Buy-Side Solutions together with the Clearwater platform to modernize its investment operating model, according to a joint announcement from the two companies issued from London and New York. NFU Mutual, described in the announcement as the UK’s leading rural insurer, manages approximately $32 billion in assets across a diversified range of funds.

NFU Mutual will jointly implement Bloomberg Buy-Side Solutions and Clearwater to streamline its front-to-back multi-asset investment management operating model. Bloomberg will provide portfolio management, trading, pre-trade compliance and trade operations, including workflows to support T+1 settlement readiness, while Clearwater will provide investment operations and investment accounting. Bloomberg and Clearwater will jointly support the insurer’s regulatory reporting requirements. The companies said the engagement gives the mutual insurer a modular front-to-back operating model that combines investment management, accounting, reconciliation and regulatory reporting.

The announcement states that Bloomberg’s strategic collaboration with Clearwater enables NFU Mutual to establish a seamless, flexible front-to-back composable operating model that improves workflow efficiency, strengthens data consistency and transaction reporting, and accelerates settlement cycles.

“By adopting Bloomberg and Clearwater’s integrated solutions, we are building an automated and highly flexible end-to-end operating model that strengthens our control environment, streamlines processes and builds a solid data foundation for our investment reporting,” said Nigel Bryan, Head of Financial Control at NFU Mutual. Bryan said the solution automates key workflows across the investment lifecycle, from order generation and execution through matching, settlement and post-trade processing, and that Bloomberg’s post-trade regulatory, risk and compliance solutions further streamline operations while strengthening the firm’s transaction reporting capabilities.

Jose Ribas, Head of Buy-Side Enterprise Solutions at Bloomberg, said insurers are modernizing their investment operations by connecting portfolio management, trading, accounting and post-trade reporting around a single, trusted framework. He said Bloomberg, together with Clearwater Analytics, is helping NFU Mutual and other insurers simplify complex workflows, strengthen data consistency and utilize a composable operating model that can scale with the business.

“Our integrated offerings give investment teams one end-to-end investment and accounting book of record, so they can make better decisions faster and reliably,” said Keith Viverito, Managing Director, EMEA at Clearwater Analytics. Viverito said NFU Mutual’s selection shows insurers no longer need to choose between operational depth and technological agility, adding that with integrated front-to-back solutions from Clearwater and Bloomberg, clients can build one accurate, audit-ready operating model across the entire investment lifecycle, delivered as a service.

Partnership Dating to July 2025

The NFU Mutual selection extends a formal collaboration the two vendors announced on July 9, 2025, under which they agreed to deliver a front-to-back investment solution for asset owners and asset managers using an open and modular approach. The July 2025 partnership announcement said the combined offering would provide users with an enhanced operating model delivering scale, speed and flexibility, allowing them to manage costs and reduce risk.

The 2025 announcement listed four improvements for clients of the combined solution: turnkey managed integration, described as a redefined target operating model built to evolve with the industry; enhanced OTC management using Bloomberg’s tools for the creation and management of OTC securities; integrated cash management synchronized daily to support consistency and transparency; and consistent position and trade data exchanges supporting data consistency and lineage across systems. It described the combined offering as bringing together Bloomberg’s enterprise investment solutions for asset managers and asset owners, spanning research management, order and portfolio management, and performance and risk analytics, with Clearwater’s accounting solution, part of a platform that includes data aggregation, reconciliation and reporting.

Prior Joint Insurer Deployment

The NFU Mutual engagement follows an earlier joint deployment at a German insurer. In a March 31, 2026 announcement, the companies said BarmeniaGothaer, described as one of Germany’s top 10 insurers managing approximately 50 billion euros in assets, had gone live on Bloomberg’s buy-side solutions and had selected Clearwater as its middle- and back-office management platform, including accounting and data management, completing its front-to-back investment transformation across the organization.

That deployment followed the merger of Barmenia and Gothaer, which the announcement said created the opportunity to unite two distinct technology and data environments. BarmeniaGothaer was an existing multi-asset buyside OEMS client of Bloomberg, with deep integration to Bloomberg Electronic Markets, using Bloomberg AIM as its Investment Book of Record (IBOR) and OMS alongside Bloomberg PORT Enterprise for risk and attribution analysis. Clearwater would serve as the new middle- and back-office foundation, delivering accounting, reconciliation, regulatory reporting, performance, compliance and risk across public and private assets through a single-instance, multi-tenant platform supported by AI-driven data management services. The integration between Bloomberg’s buy-side solutions and the Clearwater platform provides a holistic view across liquid and illiquid assets, enabling consistent analysis of risk, performance and allocations across the whole portfolio and throughout the investment lifecycle, the announcement said.

The September 22 announcement did not disclose financial terms of the NFU Mutual engagement.
