Stryker Closes ZuriMED Acquisition Adding Rotator Cuff Technology

Stryker has completed its acquisition of ZuriMED Technologies AG, the privately held developer of the FiberLocker System, the company announced on October 26, 2026, adding a commercialized rotator cuff augmentation technology to its Sports Medicine portfolio.
The Portage, Michigan, medical technology company said the FiberLocker System is designed to increase the biomechanical strength of a rotator cuff repair. Stryker said the technology addresses an important clinical need in rotator cuff repair and expands its ability to support shoulder surgeons with solutions across the shoulder continuum of care. The company added that the acquisition expands its ability to support shoulder specialists across sports medicine and shoulder care.
“ZuriMED brings specialized expertise and a differentiated technology that complements our growing shoulder care capabilities,” said Andy Pierce, Group President, MedSurg and Neurotechnology at Stryker. “Together, we have an opportunity to advance the FiberLocker technology, expand access to innovative treatment options and deliver greater value for our customers and their patients.”
The announcement did not disclose financial terms of the transaction.

ZuriMED announced the clearance on February 3, 2025, stating that the FiberLocker System would enter the U.S. market in the first quarter of 2025 and that it anticipated the first clinical application. The company said its solution was developed to reinforce rotator cuff repairs and improve traditional techniques, and it described the clearance as a significant step forward for ZuriMED and for advancing rotator cuff repair technology overall.
From Definitive Agreement to Closing
Stryker first announced on August 31, 2026, that it had signed a definitive agreement to acquire ZuriMED. The company said at the time that the transaction was subject to customary closing conditions and that Stryker and ZuriMED would continue to operate as separate entities, proceeding with business as usual, until the transaction closed.
ZuriMED confirmed the agreement in a September 1, 2026, post on its website, stating that Stryker had signed a definitive agreement to acquire the company and bring the FiberLocker System into Stryker’s shoulder portfolio. ZuriMED called the acquisition “an important milestone for ZuriMED and our mission to advance rotator cuff repair.”
In its signing announcement, Stryker described the FiberLocker System as a soft tissue augmentation technology that provides a novel approach for rotator cuff augmentation and is designed to reduce the occurrence of a key clinical failure mode in rotator cuff repair. The company characterized rotator cuff augmentation as one of the fastest-growing areas in sports medicine and a significant opportunity within shoulder care, citing a Mordor Intelligence report titled “Rotator Cuff Treatment Market Size and Share Analysis – Growth, Trends, and Forecasts (2026–2031).” Stryker said the acquisition would enhance its ability to support shoulder specialists across both sports medicine and arthroplasty while strengthening its portfolio in rotator cuff augmentation.
In the August 2026 announcement, Pierce said ZuriMED had developed a differentiated technology that addresses an important clinical need within shoulder care and that the acquisition reflected Stryker’s continued commitment to advancing innovation and improving patient outcomes.
