Salesforce Agrees to Acquire Military Logistics Software Maker Rune

Salesforce (CRM ) announced on October 29, 2026 that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Rune Technologies, an Arlington, Virginia-based defense technology company that builds logistics and sustainment software for the U.S. military and allied nations. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Salesforce said Rune would mark its most significant national security-focused acquisition. The company said the deal will broaden its Missionforce portfolio with what it described as purpose-built super intelligence capabilities for logistics at the tactical edge, complementing Missionforce Operations and its ability to automate complex enterprise processes.
“Salesforce is doubling down on national security with our most significant acquisition in this space,” said Kendall Collins, President and CEO of Missionforce and Government Cloud at Salesforce. Rune CEO and co-founder David Tuttle said his company built its technology for military sustainers “at the front lines, where they need to make critical battlefield decisions even without reliable connectivity.”
Rune’s software is designed to help frontline teams forecast supply needs, optimize resources, and make mission-critical decisions in denied, degraded, intermittent, or limited (DDIL) environments, where formations operate with little or no connectivity. According to Salesforce, Rune’s situational intelligence, simulation, and optimization models forecast demand and resupply needs, recommend resource allocation and transportation routing, and help teams evaluate logistics plans before and during operational execution. Salesforce described modern defense operations as running across three connected layers — enterprise systems of record at headquarters, a strategic headquarters layer where critical planning happens, and the operational edge where frontline units make decisions under time and connectivity pressure — and said Rune completes the third layer. Personnel status, maintenance workflows, acquisition processes, and sustainment plans continue to operate as the same unit of record and reconcile automatically when connectivity is restored, the company said.
Military Deployments and Awards
Rune is already deployed with the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps. Rune announced on October 7, 2026 that the Army selected its TyrOS platform for delivery to I Corps as the service’s Next Generation Command and Control (NGC2) effort moves from prototyping to production and scales across the Army. The award is part of the Army’s initial NGC2 application awards, which carry a collective one-year value of approximately $93.6 million. Under the production award, TyrOS will provide sustainment mission command capabilities across I Corps echelons, enabling commanders and logisticians to view what units have and what they need.
The production decision followed prototyping with the 4th Infantry Division, which used TyrOS at Project Convergence Capstone 6 at Fort Irwin, California, in July, and division-wide sustainment use by the 25th Infantry Division during Lightning Surge 5 in Hawaii. Rune also disclosed a $4.1 million U.S. Army Technology Maturation Initiative award through the Army Applications Laboratory to expand TyrOS across the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas, and connect logistics demand directly to unmanned aircraft and ground vehicles for autonomous resupply. Beyond the Army, Rune said it is the logistics application provider on the Marine Corps’ Project Dynamis and won its first Air Force award through AFWERX. The company’s TyrSense NFC sensor tags track personnel and supplies at each handoff.
Funding History
Tuttle and Peter Goldsborough founded Rune in 2024 in Arlington, Virginia, after leading integrated hardware-software efforts within Anduril’s C2 Systems Division. The company announced a $6.2 million seed round in February 2025 led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from Point72 Ventures, XYZ Venture Capital, and individual investors including Anduril SVP of Software Gokul Subramanian, Vannevar Labs CEO Brett Granberg, Cape CEO John Doyle, and Forterra CGO Scott Sanders.
In July 2025, Rune announced a $24 million Series A led by Human Capital with participation from Pax VC and Washington Harbour Partners and existing investors Andreessen Horowitz, Point72 Ventures, XYZ Venture Capital, and Forward Deployed VC. The company said the round brought its total funds raised in the prior year to over $30 million. Rune also said it was selected for the Palantir Startup Fellowship and integrated with Palantir’s Defense OSDK to enable automated logistics capabilities from the tactical edge to the strategic layer.
Salesforce said that one year after launching Missionforce, its defense business is growing 80% year over year, with customers spanning all six branches of the U.S. military, and that public sector has become its fastest-growing industry business at scale across more than 30 countries, 60 U.S. federal agencies, all 15 Cabinet departments, and all 50 states. Recent milestones the company cited include a 10-year Army Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity contract with a $5.6 billion ceiling to expand Missionforce National Security across the Army and Department of War.
Other deployments Salesforce cited include the Army Human Resources Command’s selection of Missionforce for AI-powered HR support for 9.2 million soldiers, veterans, civilian staff, and military families within its IL5-authorized environment; an Air Force 441st Vehicle Support Chain Operations Squadron deployment modernizing sustainment for a $13.5 billion fleet of over 84,000 vehicles across nearly 389 global locations, with what Salesforce reported as zero mission downtime for roughly 7,300 personnel; the U.S. Department of Transportation’s unification of more than 10 systems on one platform; and the Transportation Security Administration’s Ace agent, which handles approximately 100,000 traveler conversations each month and resolves 96% of routine inquiries without human escalation. Salesforce also cited a new collaboration with OpenAI to bring advanced AI models and accelerated computing to Missionforce workloads and secure government environments.
The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of Salesforce’s fiscal year 2027, subject to the satisfaction of customary closing conditions.
