PNC Bank to Embed ADP Payroll in Digital Banking Platform

ADP and PNC Bank announced a strategic partnership on October 28, 2026 that will embed ADP’s payroll and human resources capabilities directly into PNC’s digital banking platform through a new offering named PNC Payroll by ADP. The announcement, datelined Roseland, New Jersey, and Pittsburgh, was published on ADP’s media center.
PNC Payroll by ADP will bring payroll, HR, benefits, time, insurance and retirement solutions into PNC’s digital banking experience, connecting them with the banking, payments and cash management capabilities businesses use every day. Businesses can manage payroll alongside PNC’s cash management and payment capabilities in a single digital environment, and PNC clients will have access to digital self-service capabilities and 24/7 support from ADP payroll experts.
The companies state the offering helps reduce operational complexity, making it easier for small businesses to manage cash flow, payments, compliance and payroll, and describe the agreement as a response to small businesses increasingly seeking integrated technology experiences. The announcement identifies ADP as a global leader in HR and payroll solutions and PNC Bank as one of the largest financial services institutions in the United States.
Matt Farwell, president of Small Business Services at ADP, said small businesses want technology that works together seamlessly. “This collaboration brings together two of the systems small businesses rely on most: banking and payroll,” he said, adding that ADP and PNC aim to provide a trusted, centralized platform that can help business owners spend less time navigating disconnected systems and more time focusing on growth.
“Our clients rely on us for the tools and support they need to build and grow their businesses,” said Dave Shorten, head of SMB Treasury Management at PNC Bank. Shorten said the collaboration combines ADP’s small business expertise and scalable solutions with PNC’s relationship-driven approach to banking, creating a solution that supports small businesses at every stage of growth.
Product Design and Target Customers
Small businesses traditionally manage payroll, HR and banking activities across multiple systems. PNC Payroll by ADP brings those functions together in a single workflow by embedding ADP’s AI-enabled payroll and HR capabilities into PNC’s digital experience, which the companies say lets businesses manage critical operations with greater confidence and accuracy.
Small business banking customers will have access to payroll, HR, time tracking, insurance and retirement solutions directly through their digital banking platform. The offering is designed to support businesses as they grow, from startups and one-person operations to more established companies looking to scale. ADP states the solution is built on its experience serving more than 900,000 small businesses and was designed to address their needs by combining simplicity with expert support.
The offering pairs digital self-service capabilities with access to 24/7 live ADP payroll experts. ADP states it brings more than 77 years of experience helping businesses manage payroll and navigate the federal, state and local requirements that affect the workplace, and that AI-powered capabilities automate routine tasks while its payroll experts provide guidance.
ADP’s Embedded Payroll Expansion
The companies describe the PNC agreement as the latest expansion of ADP’s embedded payroll offerings, which extend payroll and HR capabilities into the digital experiences small businesses use every day.
ADP launched ADP Embedded Payroll on September 29, 2025, a solution enabling small-business software providers to launch integrated payroll offerings tailored to their clients’ needs, with support for payroll processing, payments and tax compliance. In that launch, ADP’s RUN Powered by ADP payroll solution integrated directly into Clover, Fiserv’s cloud-based point-of-sale system, as the flagship partnership. The 2025 announcement said the embedded approach brings payroll directly into platforms business owners already use daily, helping to save time and catch common payroll mistakes, and described flexible integration pathways ranging from developer-friendly APIs to ready-to-deploy user interfaces.
In the September 2025 announcement, Farwell said small businesses spend considerable time toggling between standalone payroll tools and their core business software, and that embedded payroll eliminates that friction. Anand Pandya, vice president and general manager of ADP Embedded Payroll, said at the launch that integrating payroll and other human capital management functions into partner software lets providers support a broader set of small-business needs and increase client retention through a tailored user experience.
The 2025 announcement lists ADP Embedded Payroll components including enterprise-grade APIs for real-time data exchange between partner systems and ADP, pre-built user journeys using white-labeled components of RUN Powered by ADP, dedicated service teams providing support to end customers, technical support throughout integration, and go-to-market support with sales tools and training.
