OpenAI Frontier Models and Codex Head to Google Cloud Model Garden

OpenAI and Google Cloud announced on October 21, 2026 that they are partnering to bring OpenAI’s frontier models and Codex agentic workflows into Google Cloud’s Model Garden, with purchases transacted through Google Cloud Marketplace and enterprises able to draw down existing Google Cloud spend commitments to pay for them.
According to OpenAI’s announcement, the integration will give customers native access to the models within Google Cloud to power complex agentic workflows at scale, backed by Google Cloud’s data governance and high-performance infrastructure. OpenAI said the arrangement gives enterprise developers and data scientists access to its frontier models in the environment where they already work, enabling enterprises to modernize their software development lifecycle and build agentic workflows.
Michael Gerstenhaber, vice president of product management for Gemini at Google Cloud, wrote in a Google Cloud post that GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol, and GPT-6 Luna are rolling out in private preview to select enterprise customers in Model Garden, with more coming soon. Customers can build with the models through Google Cloud’s APIs and connect local Codex CLI and Desktop workflows directly to the Gemini platform for inference starting October 21, 2026, Gerstenhaber wrote. OpenAI said general availability is planned in the coming weeks. Both companies posted online forms for customers to request or express interest in access.
Model Lineup
Google Cloud described each of the three models by workload profile. GPT-6 Astra is designed for demanding work across coding, computer use, professional tasks, and scientific research. GPT-6.1 Sol delivers what Google Cloud called near-Astra intelligence at lower cost across agentic coding, computer use, and professional work. GPT-6 Luna is a fast, cost-efficient model for everyday work at scale. Customers can dynamically select and swap the optimal model for any use case based on performance, latency, and cost efficiency without architectural lock-in or separate vendor contracts, according to Google Cloud.
With the additions, Google Cloud said it is now the only hyperscale cloud provider offering access to all three leading closed source LLMs, alongside more than 200 first-party, third-party, and open models on a unified enterprise AI platform.
Marketplace Billing and Data Governance Terms
Because OpenAI models are transacted through Google Cloud Marketplace, all usage appears on a single Google Cloud invoice, draws down existing cloud commitments, and counts toward Flexible Savings Plans across model providers, according to Google Cloud.
Google Cloud stated that customer prompts, context, and outputs remain entirely within the customer’s designated data perimeter and are never used to train foundation models, with Zero Data Retention options coming soon. The OpenAI models run on dedicated Google Cloud infrastructure with Confidential Compute coming soon, and all queries route through hardened, isolated gateways so that data transit remains within Google Cloud’s secure environment and third-party model providers have no unauthorized access to a customer’s cloud environment. Every agent and model interaction operates under an authenticated identity, giving IT administrators end-to-end visibility, VPC Service Controls protection, and unified audit logging across their enterprise footprint.
OpenAI’s announcement addresses regulated industries directly, stating that deploying AI in those organizations requires control over who can access sensitive data and how it is used. The integration pairs OpenAI’s frontier models with Google Cloud’s built-in access controls, centralized data governance, and high-performance infrastructure to support demanding enterprise workloads, the company said.
“Google Cloud is a leading platform for developers and businesses building AI agents, writing software, and putting AI to work,” OpenAI president and co-founder Greg Brockman said in the announcement. “This partnership is an important step in making our most capable models and Codex available where customers are already building, giving them even more choice in how they use frontier AI as we grow the agentic ecosystem together.”
Google Cloud chief executive officer Thomas Kurian said his company is “focused on giving customers a broad selection of models, including those from OpenAI, so they can choose the right model for any given job, helping to deliver optimal quality and lower costs.”
Both companies outlined additional planned availability. OpenAI said its models will soon be available in Google Antigravity and the Gemini Agent, and Google Cloud said OpenAI models are coming soon to Gemini for business and Google Antigravity. OpenAI stated that Microsoft remains its primary cloud partner.
