VET Price Chart
VeChainThor is a public Layer-1 blockchain designed around business applications, traceability, digital identity, tokenized assets, and sustainability. Its two-token system separates VET (VET ), the fixed-supply staking and governance asset, from VTHO, the token used to pay transaction fees.
VeChain’s economics changed fundamentally in December 2025. The Hayabusa upgrade replaced its permissioned Proof of Authority model with Delegated Proof of Stake, opened validator participation, introduced VET delegation through StarGate, and ended automatic VTHO generation for unstaked VET. Older descriptions of passive VTHO rewards or Authority Masternode-only consensus are therefore obsolete.

What Is VeChain?
VeChain is an ecosystem built around VeChainThor, an Ethereum (ETH ) Virtual Machine-compatible blockchain. The network records transactions and runs smart contracts for asset tracking, product passports, sustainability incentives, data attestations, tokenization, payments, and other applications.
The project originally focused heavily on enterprise supply chains. A physical product can be associated with a QR code, NFC chip, RFID tag, or other identifier. Participants then write events to a shared ledger—for example, manufacture, inspection, shipment, temperature readings, ownership transfers, or recycling.
A blockchain can make submitted records tamper-evident, but it cannot prove that every physical input was truthful. Sensors can fail, an employee can enter false data, tags can be copied, and businesses can omit events. Real-world systems therefore still require trusted devices, audits, identity controls, and legal accountability.
VeChain now presents a broader “Web3 for Better” strategy. This includes VeBetter, an ecosystem of applications that reward users for verified sustainable actions. The opportunity extends beyond logistics, but adoption metrics for consumer reward applications should be evaluated separately from paid enterprise activity on VeChainThor.
How VeChainThor Works
VeChainThor produces blocks through a selected set of validators. It supports familiar EVM smart contracts while adding transaction features designed to make applications easier for businesses and consumers.
Fee Delegation
An application or sponsor can pay VTHO fees for a user. This removes the need for a new user to buy a gas token before interacting with a DApp. VeChain supports smart-contract-level Multi-Party Payment and transaction-level Designated Gas Payer functionality.
Fee delegation improves onboarding but is not free computation. The sponsor still pays, can set eligibility rules, and may stop subsidizing transactions. Users should also understand what the sponsoring service learns about their activity.
Multi-Task Transactions
A VeChainThor transaction can contain multiple “clauses,” each representing a transfer or contract call. The clauses execute in order and are atomic: either all succeed or all fail. This can bundle several business actions into one signed transaction.
The network also supports transaction dependencies and expiration controls. An application can require one transaction to be confirmed before another executes or can set a transaction to expire after a defined block window.
Dynamic Fees
The 2025 Galactica upgrade introduced EIP-1559-style dynamic fees. Each transaction can include a protocol-determined base fee and a user-selected priority fee. The base fee is burned; the priority fee goes to the block-producing validator.
This changes VTHO demand from the earlier fixed-gas model. Heavy network activity burns more VTHO, while priority fees help compensate validators. Fee parameters and VTHO issuance can still evolve through future upgrades.
Hayabusa and Delegated Proof of Stake
Hayabusa activated on mainnet on December 2, 2025, completing the most important stage of VeChain’s Renaissance roadmap. It retired the former Proof of Authority consensus and introduced permissionless Delegated Proof of Stake.
Anyone who meets the technical requirements and commits at least 25 million VET can apply to operate a validator. Eligible validators enter a queue and compete for one of 101 active positions. This is more open than the previous identity-approved Authority Masternode model, but the high VET requirement still creates a substantial capital barrier.
Ordinary VET holders can participate as delegators through StarGate. A user locks the required VET into a tiered staking position, receives an onchain NFT representing that position, waits through its maturity period, and delegates it to an active or queued validator.
Validator reward cycles can last 7, 15, or 30 days. Rewards are locked during a cycle and become claimable at its end. Auto-renewal is normally enabled, and leaving or changing a validator may require waiting for the active cycle to finish.
If a validator has delegators, the protocol assigns 30% of block rewards to the validator and 70% to the delegation pool. Validators also receive transaction priority fees for blocks they produce. A validator with no delegators can receive the full block reward.
Delegation is not risk-free. Reward rates vary with total VET staked, the chosen tier, validator performance, delegation weight, and network parameters. A staking NFT is transferable, so selling it transfers the locked VET, active delegation, and associated rewards to the buyer. Users should treat the NFT as control over the underlying position.
StarGate Staking Tiers
StarGate uses NFT tiers with different VET minimums, maturity periods, multipliers, and governance weight. Entry begins with the Dawn tier at 10,000 VET and a two-day maturity period. Higher tiers require 50,000, 200,000, 1 million, 5 million, or 15 million VET and progressively longer maturity periods.
A user can pay a VTHO “Boost” fee to skip maturity; the fee is burned. Boosting is an expense, not additional yield, so the saved time should be weighed against its cost.
Legacy Economic and X-Node holders had to migrate to StarGate to retain current staking and governance functionality. The old node rewards application was sunset in 2025. Guides that still direct users to the legacy rewards DApp should not be followed.
VET and VTHO: The Dual-Token Model
VeChain separates economic security from transaction fees:
- VET: A fixed-supply native asset used for staking, delegation, governance, and transfers.
- VTHO: An uncapped utility token used as gas and distributed as validator and delegator rewards.
This design aims to keep application costs less directly tied to the market price of VET. Governance can adjust fee-market and reward parameters without changing VET’s fixed maximum supply.
Before Hayabusa, every wallet generated VTHO automatically simply by holding VET. That is no longer true. New VTHO issuance now depends on the total VET actively staked, and rewards flow to validators and delegators. Unstaked VET does not earn protocol VTHO rewards.
VTHO issuance scales sublinearly with the square root of total staked VET. This means issuance rises as more VET is staked, but not in direct proportion. At the same time, every transaction burns its base fee. The balance between newly issued VTHO and transaction-fee burns depends on staking participation and network use.
VET’s maximum supply is fixed at 86,712,634,466 tokens and it cannot be mined. A fixed supply does not guarantee scarcity-driven returns: demand, token distribution, staking participation, liquidity, and market sentiment still determine price.
Governance
VeVote is the network’s governance system. Validators and eligible StarGate NFT holders can vote on protocol and ecosystem proposals. Governance weight depends on validator status and the staking NFT tier rather than simply counting every liquid VET equally.
Staking NFT holders can delegate voting rights to another address. Each wallet casts one choice—For, Against, or Abstain—per proposal, and the vote cannot be changed after submission. VeVote records governance onchain, while approved actions can still require offchain or multisignature execution.
The system is more participatory than the former Authority Masternode structure, but large VET requirements and tier-weighted voting can concentrate influence. Investors should review voter turnout, validator distribution, foundation influence, upgrade controls, and the practical execution of approved proposals.
The VeChain Ecosystem
VeChain has pursued enterprise adoption across traceability, food safety, digital product passports, automotive records, carbon data, and tokenized real-world assets. Tooling includes VeWorld wallets, developer software-development kits, public nodes, identity and attestation services, and EVM-compatible contracts.
VeBetter adds consumer applications that issue rewards for sustainable behavior. Users can earn B3TR through qualifying actions, while governance and application incentives use separate ecosystem mechanisms. B3TR and VOT3 should not be confused with VET or VTHO.
The 2026 roadmap emphasizes agent-friendly infrastructure, onchain attestations, tokenized physical assets, and expanded developer tooling. Roadmaps express intended work, not guaranteed adoption. Investors should prioritize shipped mainnet functions, active users, fees burned, and repeat enterprise usage over partnership announcements alone.
Why Investors Consider VeChain
- Long operating history: VeChain was founded in 2015 and VeChainThor has operated since 2018.
- Clear token roles: VET secures the network while VTHO pays for computation.
- Updated consensus: Hayabusa opened validation and lets smaller holders delegate VET.
- Application-focused features: Fee delegation, transaction clauses, and controllable lifecycles support consumer and enterprise workflows.
- Fixed VET supply: No new VET can be mined, although price still depends on demand.
- Real-world focus: Traceability, attestations, sustainability rewards, and tokenization offer uses beyond trading.
The investment thesis depends on whether VeChain can turn these features into sustained application demand. More transactions burn more VTHO, but that does not automatically create proportional VET demand, especially if sponsors can purchase gas independently.
Risks of Investing in VeChain
- Adoption risk: Pilots and partnerships may not become large, recurring, fee-generating deployments.
- Validator concentration: A 25 million VET minimum and 101-validator limit can concentrate consensus power.
- Token-value capture: VeChainThor can be useful without guaranteeing that VET appreciates.
- Oracle and physical-data risk: A blockchain preserves submitted records but cannot independently verify every real-world claim.
- Smart-contract risk: Applications, bridges, staking contracts, NFT positions, and wallets can contain vulnerabilities.
- Staking risk: Rewards and liquidity depend on tier rules, maturity, validator cycles, participation, and future governance changes.
- Regulatory risk: Tokenized assets, rewards programs, and enterprise data may face securities, privacy, consumer, or jurisdictional rules.
- Competition: VeChain competes with general-purpose blockchains, private ledgers, conventional databases, and other enterprise networks.

Is VeChain a Good Investment?
VeChain has moved beyond its original supply-chain positioning and, through Hayabusa, beyond its original consensus model. The current thesis combines a fixed-supply staking asset, a separate gas economy, enterprise-friendly transaction features, and applications for traceability, sustainability, and tokenization.
The strongest evidence would be rising paid activity, VTHO burns, diversified validators, active StarGate delegation, and applications with repeat users. Investors should not rely on the outdated assumption that any VET wallet automatically earns VTHO.
VET remains a volatile cryptoasset rather than ownership in the VeChain Foundation or any partner company. Before investing, verify the native VeChainThor asset, review current staking and validator data, understand how VTHO issuance and burns interact, and size exposure for the possibility of substantial loss.
