STEPN (GMT ) is a mobile move-to-earn game in which players use digital Sneaker assets and limited daily Energy to earn tokens while walking, jogging, or running outdoors. The project is part of Find Satoshi Lab (FSL), whose wider ecosystem includes STEPN GO, the MOOAR marketplace, FSL ID, and other consumer applications.
GMT is the six-billion-unit governance and utility token shared across parts of that ecosystem. It should be distinguished from STEPN’s uncapped GST reward token and STEPN GO’s separate GGT reward token. Returns are not guaranteed: earnings depend on game rules, player competition, token prices, NFT costs, repairs, upgrades, and anti-cheating systems.

What Is STEPN?
STEPN combines a fitness tracker with token rewards and game-like digital assets. A player acquires a compatible Sneaker, waits for Energy to replenish, then moves outdoors within the Sneaker’s speed range while the app measures GPS and motion data.
Sneaker type, quality, level, attributes, gems, sockets, Energy, speed, GPS quality, and system parameters influence rewards. Walker, Jogger, Runner, and Trainer assets target different movement speeds.
The application launched on Solana (SOL ) and later supported additional “Realms” on BNB Chain and Polygon (POL ). Assets, reward tokens, liquidity, and rules can differ by network. An NFT or GST balance on one Realm should not be assumed to work on another.
How Move-to-Earn Works
Energy controls how long a user can earn during a session. One Energy represents approximately five minutes, and holdings of additional or higher-quality Sneakers can increase the cap up to the rules’ maximum.
The app checks movement speed and GPS quality and applies FSL’s anti-cheating system. Poor signal, riding in a vehicle, multiple devices, manipulated data, or suspicious behavior can reduce rewards or trigger penalties.
The economic loop is circular. Players earn GST or GMT, then spend tokens on repairs, leveling, gems, minting, enhancements, marketplace assets, or other features. The system is sustainable only when entertainment and fitness demand support enough spending to balance rewards and sellers.
Digital Sneakers and Attributes
Sneakers are onchain assets with a type, quality, attributes, sockets, durability, and health. Efficiency influences GST rewards; Luck affects Mystery Box outcomes; Comfort contributes to GMT earnings and health; Resilience lowers repair costs.
Leveling improves attributes and unlocks features, but usually consumes time and tokens. Gems can strengthen particular attributes, while sockets determine what can be equipped. Minting or enhancement can create or combine assets according to current rules.
NFT ownership does not guarantee gameplay utility forever. FSL can rebalance rewards, fees, Energy, repair rates, eligibility, and anti-cheating parameters. A high-priced Sneaker can lose value because of token inflation, player decline, new asset tiers, or a rule change.
GST, GMT, and Spark
Classic STEPN uses two tradable tokens:
- GST: an uncapped utility and reward token used for repairs, leveling, minting, gems, sockets, Mystery Boxes, and enhancements; and
- GMT: the capped governance and premium utility token, earned by eligible level-30 or Rainbow Sneakers and consumed in advanced features.
On iOS, Spark is a non-transferable in-app credit used for Sneaker purchases through Apple Pay. Spark cannot be traded or converted into GMT or GST.
An unlimited reward token is not automatically inflationary at every moment because players burn GST for in-game activity. Nevertheless, issuance can exceed burns during weak demand, causing price pressure and lowering the real value of rewards.
GMT Supply and Utility
Six billion GMT were minted at the March 2022 token-generation event. Official documentation lists active representations on Solana, BNB Chain, and Polygon; an Ethereum (ETH ) contract is labeled inactive.
GMT is used to purchase marketplace assets, unlock or upgrade features, increase selected caps, and participate across FSL products. STEPN has also burned GMT through user consumption. A burn reduces supply only after the token is irreversibly removed onchain; it does not guarantee price appreciation.
GMT earning in Classic STEPN is competitive. Eligible users share daily pools, so the reward per participant changes with total Comfort or Rainbow Power used during each calculation period. There is no fixed personal GMT earnings cap, but limited pools and competition constrain output.
January 2026 GMT Halving
The GMT earning halving began on January 1, 2026 after being postponed from its earlier proposed date. The change reduces GMT emissions and is intended to extend the reward lifecycle.
Classic and Rainbow participants do not receive a guaranteed number of tokens merely because the schedule halves. Daily distribution, active earners, Sneaker statistics, pool allocation, and system parameters all affect actual rewards.
Lower emissions can reduce sell pressure, but they can also make gameplay less attractive. Investors should monitor whether active users and spending remain healthy after the halving rather than assuming scarcity alone improves value.
STEPN GO
STEPN GO is a newer social-fitness game in the FSL ecosystem. It adds GGT, Fitness Levels, the Haus lending system, customizable avatars, outfits, an interactive map, quests, events, Mystery Boxes, and player-versus-player or Schadenfreude mechanics.
GGT is an uncapped reward and utility token for STEPN GO. GMT is used for higher-level activities such as upgrading Sneakers or Raw Stones and increasing Mystery Box slots. Official tokenomics state that direct GMT earning in STEPN GO is reserved for a later Schadenfreude-pool phase; current Classic STEPN remains the established GMT earning route.
STEPN and STEPN GO share a capped pool of 20,000 Genesis Sneakers, but their ordinary assets and economics are not identical. New features can expand GMT utility while also creating additional tokens and NFT supply competing for user spending.
MOOAR and the FSL Ecosystem
MOOAR is FSL’s NFT marketplace and launch platform. GMT can be used in selected auctions and ecosystem activities, while FSL ID provides a shared identity layer across products.
Ecosystem reuse can create token demand and make onboarding easier. It also increases company dependency. A policy, security, or reputation problem at FSL can affect several products simultaneously.
The value created by a marketplace or new game does not automatically accrue to GMT. Investors should identify the exact fee, burn, governance, or access mechanism involved rather than counting every FSL user as GMT demand.
Anti-Cheating and Data Privacy
Move-to-earn rewards are vulnerable to GPS spoofing, bots, account farms, and device manipulation. STEPN’s SMAC system evaluates movement and device data to identify suspected cheating.
Strong anti-cheating protects legitimate users and the reward pool, but false positives can lock or penalize an account. Detection rules are not fully transparent because publishing them would help attackers evade the system.
Fitness applications also collect sensitive location, movement, device, and account information. Users should review permissions, privacy terms, data retention, and the consequences of linking a wallet to a real-world movement profile.
Benefits of STEPN
- Clear consumer use case: the application connects rewards with outdoor activity rather than passive token holding.
- Established product: STEPN has operated since 2022 and remains available through official mobile stores.
- Multiple token sinks: repairs, upgrades, gems, minting, marketplace activity, and premium features consume assets.
- Capped GMT supply: all six billion GMT were created at launch.
- 2026 emission reduction: the GMT halving slows distribution from earning pools.
- Broader ecosystem: STEPN GO, MOOAR, and FSL ID create additional integration paths.
- Multi-chain access: Realms serve users across Solana, BNB Chain, and Polygon.
- Fitness motivation: game mechanics can encourage consistent real-world movement.
Risks to Consider Before Investing in GMT
- Game-economy risk: rewards can exceed sustainable player spending.
- No guaranteed return: token prices, repairs, NFT depreciation, and changing parameters can erase earnings.
- Company control: FSL can change game rules, pools, fees, eligibility, and supported networks.
- User-retention risk: financial incentives may not support long-term fitness engagement.
- Asset dilution: new Sneakers, Realms, tokens, and games can compete with existing holdings.
- Anti-cheating risk: attackers can drain rewards, while false positives can penalize legitimate accounts.
- Privacy risk: location and device data can expose sensitive behavior.
- Smart-contract risk: marketplace, token, bridge, and DeFi integrations can be exploited.
- Multi-chain risk: assets on different Realms are not automatically interchangeable.
- Liquidity risk: GMT, GST, GGT, and Sneaker markets can become thin during falling demand.
- Regulatory risk: tokens, rewards, NFTs, geolocation, and in-app purchases face changing rules.
- Governance ambiguity: GMT is labeled a governance token, but investors should verify what decisions holders can enforce.
What Investors Should Monitor
Relevant data include daily and monthly active users, retention after reward changes, new versus returning players, distance recorded, Sneaker supply and floor prices, Energy consumption, GST/GGT issuance and burns, GMT earnings and burns, halving effects, marketplace volume, STEPN GO feature adoption, FSL ecosystem spending, anti-cheating incidents, app-store availability, treasury balances, token unlocks, and chain-by-chain liquidity.
Downloaded wallets and social followers are weak indicators. Consistent active movement, repeat in-game spending, and a healthy ratio of token sinks to emissions are more informative.

STEPN Outlook
STEPN remains one of the most recognizable move-to-earn applications, and its current ecosystem is far more mature than the month-old product described in the previous article. The 2026 GMT halving, multi-chain Classic game, and STEPN GO expansion show continuing development.
Its core challenge has not changed: financial rewards must be supported by entertainment, fitness value, and recurring spending rather than constant new entrants. GMT can benefit from lower emissions and broader FSL utility only if active users remain engaged. Investors should track real player retention, net token burns, NFT economics, and product execution instead of projecting a fixed payback period from today’s reward screen.
