Iberdrola Raises 2026 Interim Dividend 8.7% to €0.275 Per Share

Iberdrola set the total interim dividend against its 2026 results at €0.275 gross per share on 21 October 2026, an increase of 8.7% compared with the dividend for 2025, under the terms of a new edition of the “Iberdrola Retribución Flexible” program announced to the Spanish National Securities Market Commission. Iberdrola said the total interim dividend will amount to €1.835 billion, compared with €1.690 billion last year.
Under the program, shareholders will have three options: receive new shares, collect the dividend in cash, or sell their rights on the market. They may choose one of these alternatives or combine them according to their preferences. Iberdrola said the increase reinforces the growth in shareholder remuneration and the dividend policy the group has pursued for more than 20 years, and that the new edition reaffirms the company’s commitment to its shareholders.
The company said annual dividends have risen from €482 million in 2000 to €4.532 billion paid in 2025, and that Iberdrola has distributed nearly €47 billion in dividends since 2001.
Estimated Timetable for 2027
The announcement sets out an estimated timetable for the second 2026 edition of “Iberdrola Retribución Flexible”, with all dates scheduled for 2027:
- On 8 January 2027, Iberdrola will announce the number of rights required to receive one new share, the amount of the interim dividend per share and, where applicable, the amount of the balancing dividend.
- 11 January 2027 is the last day to acquire shares carrying the right to participate in “Iberdrola Retribución Flexible”.
- On 12 January 2027, the period begins during which shareholders can choose to receive new shares, collect the interim dividend in cash, or sell their rights on the market.
- On 25 January 2027, the period for choosing between the three options and trading the rights comes to an end.
- On 1 February 2027, the interim dividend and, where applicable, the balancing dividend will be paid.
- On 3 February 2027, trading in the new shares begins.
Dividend History and Policy Framework
Iberdrola launched the program in 2010 under the name “Iberdrola Dividendo Flexible” and replaced it in 2018 with the current “Iberdrola Retribución Flexible” system, according to the company’s shareholder dividends page. The page states that the group works to define a competitive remuneration policy established at a broad percentage of the net profit attributable to the company, as parent, in its consolidated annual accounts, and that its strategic plan sets a shareholder remuneration floor of €0.64 per share for 2028.
The same record details the dividends Iberdrola paid during 2026. The 2025 interim dividend was €0.253 gross per share, paid on 2 February 2026 with an ex-dividend date of 12 January 2026, 73 rights per share and 19% withholding, a net amount of €0.205 per share. A €0.005 gross “involvement dividend” approved at the general shareholders’ meeting was paid on 1 June 2026, and the 2025 complementary dividend of €0.427 gross per share was paid on 27 July 2026 with an ex-dividend date of 6 July 2026 and 50 rights per share. Regardless of the option chosen, part of the complementary dividend was paid as a cash balancing dividend of €0.002 gross per share. The involvement and complementary payments carried net amounts of €0.004 and €0.346 per share, respectively, with the same 19% withholding applied. The payments brought total dividends for 2025 to €0.685 gross per share, or €0.555 net.
Annual per-share dividends totaled €0.449 in 2021, €0.501 in 2022, €0.558 in 2023, €0.645 in 2024 and €0.685 in 2025, according to the dividends page, with each year combining an interim dividend, a €0.005 involvement dividend and a complementary dividend.
The dividend decision was announced on the same day that Iberdrola reported a net profit of €5.8 billion for the first nine months of 2026, an increase of 10%. That release lists the proposed interim shareholder remuneration of €0.275 per share, up 8.7%, and states that the supplementary dividend will be announced in 2027 following the annual general meeting. The company also raised its full-year 2026 outlook to adjusted net profit growth of at least 10%.
