Launched in early 2021, the Convex Finance platform was tailor built to entice and reward participation of both liquidity providers and stakers on Curve Finance – a decentralized exchange for Ethereum based stablecoins.
In order to entice and reward such participation, Convex Finance utilizes CVX tokens which ‘boost’ the yields seen by CRV holders. Liquidity providers (LP) on Curve can boost their returns depending on how many tokens they lock-up on the platform. However, the amount required for high levels of boost is substantial. Convex Finance allows for Curve LP token holders to pool their assets together, with the pool now being eligible for greater CRV and CVX rewards.
CVX tokens are used as a means of governance, rewards for liquidity providers, and for platform fees. These tokens can also be staked for further utility, with 5% of platform fees distributed among participants.
