Conductor, a developer tool for running teams of AI coding agents, announced on November 4, 2026 that it is joining Meta. Charlie Holtz said the team will work with Nat Friedman and Alexandr Wang at MSL, adding, “We have some big, crazy plans for the next interface.” The company disclosed no purchase price, transaction structure or closing date, but immediately began restricting its standalone service.

Cloud Shutdown and Customer Transition

New user sign-ups and app downloads have stopped. Existing free users can no longer upgrade to Pro, while existing Pro users can keep using Pro features for free. Active subscribers will receive refunds.

Conductor Cloud closes in two stages. Workspaces become read-only on November 13, allowing customers to read old chats and export data but not send new messages. The service shuts down on November 20, when Conductor begins deleting Cloud user data. Users are instructed to export their data before that deletion begins.

Customers can move a cloud workspace and its chats to a Mac by right-clicking the workspace and selecting “Transfer to local.” A full archive is available through Settings → Account → Export data. The local application continues working for now and will receive new models and critical bug fixes until early 2027, when it begins winding down. Conductor says it has never sold or trained on user data, maintains that it will not do so, and will delete all Conductor user data when the app shuts down.

Coding Agent Product and What Comes Next

Conductor’s product is built to run and coordinate teams of coding agents. It supports the first-party Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and OpenCode agents, allowing users to direct different agents within its environment. Multiplayer workspaces let teammates share a link, see who is active, follow work and prompt agents together in real time. Users can operate Conductor through its desktop application, mobile interface or their own integrations through the Conductor API.

Conductor Cloud uses isolated microVMs with repositories and dependencies pre-installed. On its product page, Conductor says sandboxes start in seconds, agents can run for hours, and the product is trusted by more than 100,000 builders.

Conductor launched in July 2025. Holtz’s announcement describes that as a time when writing most code with agents, let alone a team of coding agents, still seemed unusual.

The team says it hopes to have something new for users by early 2027, but is not yet sharing details of what it will build. That target is tied to the promised interface rather than a commitment to preserve the current hosted product.

For customers, the practical result is a rapid closure of Conductor’s hosted service and a longer transition for local users. For Meta, the announced change brings in a team focused on multi-agent coding software while leaving the design and capabilities of its next interface unanswered.
