Coinbase Lowers Advanced Trading Fees With Tiers Starting at $10,000

Coinbase on September 16, 2026, announced a simplified and lower fee structure for many active traders on Coinbase Advanced, with the new pricing taking effect the same day, according to the company’s announcement. Volume tiers on the platform now start at US$10,000 in qualifying volume, down from US$25,000, and the structure consolidates fee tiers across spot and derivatives in eligible jurisdictions so that a trader’s tier incorporates both spot and derivatives activity.
The company said it was acting on customer feedback that fees matter, while continuing to deliver the security, liquidity, and trading experience customers expect. The new fee structure varies by market and trading volume, and customers can view their applicable fees and current volume tier through their Advanced portfolio.
Regional Spot Entry Rates and Tier Qualification
A trader’s tier is based on whichever volume or balance criterion is most favourable to them, the company said. Spot entry-level tiers are now 0.50% maker and 0.90% taker in the U.S.; 0.25% maker and 0.50% taker in the EU and the UK; and 0.09% maker and 0.10% taker in Brazil, India, and other international markets. Coinbase said the changes complement what it characterized as already market-leading pricing and liquidity, with spot crypto trading as low as 0bps/2bps for VIP8 clients.
Traders can also qualify instantly for VIP fees and benefits by holding USDC on the platform, and Coinbase One members continue to earn an unlimited 3.5% APY on USDC, the company said.
Derivatives, Equity Perps, and Status Match
U.S. stock trading remains commission-free, as do Equity Perps contracts such as the US 500 Perp. In eligible international perps markets, Coinbase is introducing maker rebates of up to 0.4bps at higher VIP tiers in eligible jurisdictions, while Equity Perps carry promotional pricing of 0bps maker and 1bps taker.
Coinbase also invited traders holding VIP status on other exchanges to fast-track their tier through its Status Match program. According to Coinbase’s VIP program documentation, customers from another exchange can request 60 days of VIP status by submitting proof of 30-day trading volume through the VIP status match section of the Advanced Trade fees page.
Under Coinbase’s fee documentation, taker orders — orders filled immediately at market price, such as market orders or immediately fulfilled limit orders — pay the taker fee, while maker orders that are not immediately matched are placed on the order book and pay the maker fee when matched. For a partially matched order, the immediately filled portion pays the taker fee and the remainder pays the maker fee once matched.
The fee tier in effect at the time an order is placed determines its fees, not the tier after the order, and tiers update hourly based on trading volume. Fees are based on total USD trading volume over the past 30 days across all order books, with non-USD transactions converted to USD using the most recent fill price. Coinbase states that Advanced fees are subject to change and are always displayed on the order preview page.
The VIP program is currently available to eligible traders outside the UK, according to the program documentation. VIP levels are determined by a member’s trailing 30-day trading volume or asset balance, and members move automatically to higher or lower levels as their trading volume or balance changes, with real-time alerts notifying them of level changes or newly available benefits. Benefits vary by level and may include discounted trading fees, concierge support with a dedicated relationship manager, access to exclusive promotions, and market insights and updates; maker and taker fees vary by level and are applied automatically. Enrollment is automatic for customers who meet the trading or balance requirements, and a program dashboard shows members their current level and fee structure along with what is required to reach the next level.
“Advanced clients need deep liquidity, reliable execution and broad market access,” said Shannon Kurtas, Senior Director, Product Management at Coinbase. Kurtas said that as the company scales what it calls the Everything Exchange globally, it is focused on expanding the instruments customers can trade with Coinbase and on helping clients scale their multi-asset trading more easily. “These changes are another investment in enhancing the Coinbase Advanced experience for our active traders,” Kurtas said.
Coinbase describes Advanced as built for traders seeking advanced order types and risk management, charting with modular layouts, capital efficiency, and direct access to spot and derivatives trading from a single platform. The company said it has spent more than a decade building the security, infrastructure, and liquidity its customers rely on.
According to the announcement’s product-availability disclosure, derivatives trading through Coinbase Advanced is offered to eligible EEA customers by Coinbase Financial Services Europe Ltd. under CySEC License 374/19, and access requires customers to pass standard assessment checks determining their eligibility and suitability for the product.
