L3Harris Wins Two TKMS Submarine Mast Equipment Contracts

L3Harris Technologies (LHX ) announced on November 2, 2026, that it had received two multi-million-dollar contracts from TKMS to provide submarine mast-raising equipment and associated electronic control units. The technology enables submarines to deploy and retract critical payloads used for communications, surveillance and navigation.
The announcement characterized the work as advancing German and Norwegian submarine technology. “L3Harris is proud to play a major role in shaping the future of European submarine capability,” said Nino DiCosmo, President, Maritime, Space & Mission Systems at L3Harris. “Our partnership with TKMS reinforces our commitment to supporting European naval modernization.”
Equipment Design and Product Range
The company’s submarine mast-raising equipment is described as non-hull-penetrating and is available with hydraulic or electric actuation. Electric actuation eliminates the need for oil and piping, as well as the risks linked to oil pollution. Listed design features include minimum detectability, noiseless raising and lowering control, and DROP-IN/DROP-OUT installation.
L3Harris said its mast-raising equipment features proven solutions for integrating all existing sensors and antennas available on the market. Its complete range of non-hull-penetrating systems allows standardization and cost reduction, together with enhancements in quality and overall performance. The integration statement covers the company’s equipment range; the contract announcement does not identify the payload configuration for either TKMS award.
Within that range, submarine sensor masts are listed for optronic sensors and ESM antennas. Communications masts are listed for HF, multi-function and satellite antennas, while radar masts form a separate product category. L3Harris also includes a periscope hoisting system and the Universal Modular Mast, abbreviated as UMM, in its submarine product line.
Qualification and Operating Record
For the equipment covered by the TKMS announcement, L3Harris said its systems meet stringent naval requirements for safety, reliability and integration within modern submarine platforms. High-grade materials and minimal maintenance requirements help ensure optimal vessel availability with reduced lifecycle costs.
L3Harris characterized the equipment as proven through extensive operational experience across numerous naval fleets worldwide. The product record states that the company has provided more than 600 masts. It also describes the submarine systems as having proven high performance and reliability and says they currently equip vessels operated by many world navies.
The announcement did not disclose individual contract values, equipment quantities, delivery schedules or the specific submarine platforms assigned to the TKMS work. It also did not provide separate values for the mast-raising equipment and associated electronic control units, or identify whether hydraulic or electric actuation will be used.
