Founded in 2015, Plutus markets itself as a ‘next generation finance app’.  To date, this has manifested in two main services – a debit card with crypto-based rewards, and a decentralized trading platform (DEX) which acts as a FIAT-Crypto onramp.

Powering each of these services are Ethereum based tokens known as Pluton or ‘PLU’.  These tokens function in a variety of ways, and are used to reward users of the Plutus debit card with up to 4% back in PLU.  Plutus describes PLU as ‘the world’s first decentralised loyalty token’.

For users of the Plutus debit card, various strategic partnerships have been established with companies like AirBnB, Lenovo, Amazon, Nike, and more.  These partnerships provide additional benefits on top of the base 3% already awarded for users which opt to stake their PLU holdings.

The Plutus DEX is used primarily in two ways – to convert between FIAT and crypto, and to purchase crypto in peer-2-peer fashion with no intermediary.  Plutus states that European members of its debit card program are exempt from fees on the DEX.

Plutus notes that its decisions are made with the goal of remaining not only compliant with regulations, but highly secure, user-friendly, and ‘customer-centric’.
