Velas is a delegated-proof-of-stake blockchain, based upon the Solana network. The team behind this project is actively developing its blockchain for an eventual decentralized internet – commonly referred to as ‘Web 3.0'. It is doing so in an attempt to return power over data and the internet itself, back to the people.
To achieve this, Velas believes the key is in offering solutions that combine the ease of use and simplicity of centralized solutions, with the reliability and transparency of those which are decentralized. For this to occur, however, multiple hurdles associated with blockchain technology (scalability, security, decentralization) must be cleared. With its network being founded on Solana, boasting high levels of throughput, Velas believes it has found a solution to each.
Various other products have been made available on the Velas blockchain, making it an increasingly flexible solution.

In order to achieve its goal of creating the ‘fastest and the most secure blockchain', Velas makes use of what are known as ‘VLX' tokens.
These utility tokens can not only be staked but are used to pay for transaction fees on the network.
VLX tokens have a total supply of just over 2 billion and an inflation rate of 8% annually.
