Blockchain technology continues to develop at a rapid pace, and as 2022 progresses, blockchain’s metaverse trend is becoming more and more defined as a sector. With that said, the majority of metaverse projects appear to be games, making blockchain and gaming industries more closely connected than ever before.
While older metaverse games are growing, adding new features, and pushing adoption, the new ones are emerging all around the world, targeting players globally, attracting them with the possibility of playing games for free, and even offering them money to play, thanks to the play-to-earn model that allows gamers to receive rewards for completing various tasks, and simply showing up to play the game in the first place.
With that said, it is clear that blockchain gaming is going to be the trend that marks 2022, and potentially years that have yet to come. As a result, we wanted to explore some of these games and share our findings in order to help those who are interested in such projects but don’t know where to start. So, without further ado, here are our top selection for the 7 best crypto games to watch in March 2022.
1. Axie Infinity
The first on our list is Axie Infinity. This is a Pokemon-like game that uses metaverse technology to offer a massive world for players to explore and collect, raise, train, upgrade, and battle creatures called Axies. These monster-like beings all come in the form of NFTs, so users have to invest a small amount of money to get them, but after that, they will be all set to start making money by playing the game.
This is possible in a few ways. First, users can breed monsters in order to create new ones, and since there are over 500 body parts belonging to creatures of all types, all of these monsters will be rather unique. Once players create a new one, they can either sell it on an NFT market or train it and use it to win battles against other players, in which case, they get rewards in the form of AXS tokens. AXS is Axie’s native cryptocurrency that can be used for buying new monsters, paying for stronger body parts, or simply exchanging it for cash on crypto exchanges.

Next, we have Ertha, which is a very complex and interesting project. Ertha is a metaverse that features the exact replica of our planet, split into 350,000 individual digital plots of land. These are called HEXes, and each HEX comes in the form of an NFT.
By purchasing the NFTs, users become owners of the land, and depending on where the HEX is located, they become a part of their country and take on a certain role. The role can be anything, from a businessman running a company to a state official who helps run the country. You can also be a warrior, which is essentially a soldier, or even a scholar, or scientist, whose job is to do research and expand the knowledge base.
All of these roles make up a complex and interesting ecosystem where everyone contributes to society while trying to outperform their competitors. Ertha is growing in popularity as it continues to expand its digital world, as well as its user base, and we expect to see this project become one of the largest and most popular blockchain games in the near future.

In the third spot, we have Derace, which describes itself as an NFT horse racing ecosystem that aims to set a new standard for the gaming and horse betting industries. The project allows users to purchase NFT horses and breed them to make new ones, each with its own unique characteristics. After that, they can use them to bet on real-time NFT horse races, and even build their own NFT hippodromes to host races. In doing so, players would have the chance to earn some profit.
Derace is a very interesting project that has the potential to disrupt three multi-billion sectors at the same time, which includes video gaming, gambling, and horse racing. It has a massive opportunity to become a leading project in the sector of video games that contain gambling features. As for the horse industry, it also has a chance to go big there, as the existing horse racing industry is suffering from massive amounts of corruption, scandals, and it is falling behind all other sports in terms of digitalization.
Thanks to blockchain technology, all of these issues can be solved through the power of decentralization and transparency, which is why we expect to see this project thrive as well, in months and years to come.

Halfway down the list, we have Aurory, which is a Japanese role-playing game set into a retro-futuristic universe. Essentially, the game lets players choose between different game modes, including single-player and two multiplayer modes. The single-player, or solo game mode, offers a hand-drawn, side-scrolling game featuring 2D animations.
In the game, players take over a retro-futuristic cat-like protagonist called Helios. They have to talk to NPCs, go on quests, and even defeat opponents in order for the plot to progress. Once players defeat the opponents, they can earn them as NFTs. As soon as they do, they can use these NFTs to access the multiplayer mode.
Players can also stake NFTs to win in-game skins, power-ups, unique cards, and more. All of these items can also be used to their advantage, and against other players. Alternatively, they can be traded on the platform’s native marketplace. Later on, the developers also plan to introduce a PVP mode, so there is definitely a lot to look forward to.

5. Mines of Dalarnia
In the fifth spot, we have Mines of Dalarnia (DAR), or MoD, for short. This is an action-adventure game that features a blockchain real-estate market. The game is based on rather simple, but still very captivating gameplay, where users are allowed to mine in-game items and combine them in order to build various upgrades for their characters. In doing so, they increase their in-game rank.
They can then go and search for various rare minerals, relics and artifacts, complete quests, or even join forces with other players in order to fight monsters and win rewards. Like most blockchain games, it also uses the play-to-earn model that allows players to earn actual money in the form of cryptocurrency. Its levels are procedurally generated, and each time, players get the task to uncover the level’s (and MoD universe’s) secrets by collecting rare items, trading them on the marketplace in the form of NFTs, and alike.
All in all, it is an interesting Minecraft-like game that we expect many to enjoy, given the popularity of Minecraft itself.

In the sixth spot, we have Aavegotchi, which is actually a DeFi-focused NFT that runs on Aave protocol. It is a project that features Aavegotchis — game avatars that can also be used as DeFi collateral. By using them in this way, players get to earn staking rewards.
In a way, the project is similar to CryptoKitties, as each token has a different quality to it, such as personality, body color, and alike. One thing to note is that being staked assets, Aavegotchis’ owners can liquidate the tokens whenever they wish, but doing so means losing their Gotchis. Meanwhile, all characters are presented as pixelated ghosts, due to the fact that they run on Aave, which is a “ghost” in Finnish.
Somewhat different from other projects on this list, Aavegotchi is still very interesting and is likely to attract many who wish to engage in staking, but also to add a unique twist to it and use characters, rather than simple tokens.

7. Victoria VR
Finally, to end our list, we have Victoria VR. This is a big project that comes in the form of an MMORPG based on blockchain technology, and takes place in Virtual Reality, with Realistic Graphics built on Unreal Engine. The project was entirely created and owned by its users.
So, what is there to know about it? Well, let’s start by noting that the entire world was built as a universal platform for all virtual realities, decentralized applications, games, and more, which make up the Metaverse. In the game’s world, there will be not only games and quests but also never-ending adventures, virtual galleries, as well as the big market VR where users can go to exchange NFTs and do it all in 3D. Each time they perform activities in the VR world, they will be rewarded with Victoria VR (VR) tokens. It is actually quite an interesting concept, and we are looking forward to seeing more of this project as it continues to develop.
Crypto-related games are rapidly growing in number thanks to the rise of metaverse as a major new trend. With digital worlds now becoming a new norm on countless blockchains, it is a perfect time for new games to start emerging. The seven games featured above are only some on the growing list of blockchain projects that offer incentivized gaming. Most of them rely on the play-to-earn model to attract users and offer them the ability to make money as they engage in their favorite pastime.
